Authentic Worship – Day 6

An 8-day devotional

Corporate Worship

Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.’

(Hebrews 10:24-25 NLT)

My goodness.

Just thinking about corporate worship gives me chills – in a great way!

Have you ever stopped in the middle of worship in a corporate gathering of the church and just listened to the saints of God sing to Him? It is spectacular. It’s not the quality of the voice or the accuracy of the notes hit, but the passion and the love that is poured out to God that blows me away.

How about you?

Hebrews 10 encourages us to not give up meeting together as the church (people of God), especially as Jesus’s return is drawing near.

Do you prioritise corporate worship or worship of any kind in a Christian gathering?

If you meet with a few friends to pray occasionally, do you offer up a song before you begin praying? Or after? Or both?!

When we gather together to worship, we are literally presenting a picture of heaven to those around us – and that is a powerful witness especially to those who don’t yet know Jesus as their Saviour.

As we have already mentioned, we should come to these corporate gatherings of believers with a sober mind and a contrite heart. If you hold anything against a brother or sister or know that someone may be holding something against you, go ahead and deal with the situation ahead of worship. By doing this you are not allowing the enemy a foothold in your praise.

Your praise is a fragrant offering to the Lord but when it is laced with unforgiveness or strife, the unity and the fellowship is affected. I’m not saying you can’t praise if there are difficult circumstances between you and a fellow believer – you should praise! Definitely! But if it is within your power to right the situation before coming before the Lord in praise and worship corporately, do so.

A united, worshipping church is a thing of beauty and something to be reckoned with.

Father,

Please protect the unity of the church across the world. May we never allow a splinter of unforgiveness into our flesh and so give the enemy a foothold to drive a wedge between your Bride. For those who struggle in corporate gatherings, please give them a fresh revelation of the power of corporate fellowship and the mighty strength that their worship in unity with others brings.

In Jesus name,

Amen.
